Default Popping Front End 2004 V70-2.5T

Gang need your help,

Trusted dealer just did some work on motor and identified some addition work to be done in the future, one was the cat. but we aren't doing that now. The other was the stabilizer links. Ive been hearing them for years just going down the road over ruff pavement or bumps so we had the replaced, front and back, at my local Goodyear that Ive been with for 20 years. It fixed that noise but still hearing a pop from a dead stop accelerating. Only pops once from a dead stop.
Any thoughts?

Best- David

Could be the anti-roll bar bushings....does it feel like it's coming from down low?

Yes. Just had the stabilizer links replaced which stopped the chatter when going over bumps. But now I hear the pop from a dead stop accelerating. This noise has been there for years but was masked by broken stabilizer links. I like staying with OEM parts. Apparently stabilizer bushing are not sold separate. You have to by the whole bar. $212. My mechanic showed me the bushings and they are cracked and moving on the bar from the markings we can see on the bar.
Thoughts?

Stabiler links are different from the roll bar bushes. The roll bar bushes hold the roll bar onto the frame before the roll bar connects to the links. If you take a peek under the rear of the car you will be able to see the rear stabiler bushes holding the roll bar on to frame. Up front they are much harder to see. You have to take a peek in through the wheel well and peer back behind the tie-rod following the anti-roll bar until you see it clamped to the subframe. Obviously when this bushing wears out at higher mileage you WILL get a clunk like you describe.

Your mech is incorrect. The bushings CAN be purchased separately for the Anti-roll bar (but not for the links). Here is an example of a set from IPD for reference. Just need to make sure you get ones for the thickness of the roll bar you've got on there.

Interestingly, OEM-wise, you DO need to order the bar and bushings. What a pain.
