I needed to buy new key fob/remote, because we lost one the remaining unit is not working, so I bought 2 from RemotesRemotes.com, they look identical and come with pin codes.
I called many shops and mobile service auto-locksmiths , only one independent guy said he does this , but when he connected to his equipment, it said we have error codes that need to be cleared in order to program new key fobs so no luck, as we apparently need to get then cleared at dealership ?
Is this true ? Does anyone know who does this programming in southeast michigan, and is it possible to DIY this ?
HELP ...please any ideas much appreciated..

 

You still need a dealer or someone with VIDA and DiCE and a subscription to allow software downloads.

A used car dealer just mentioned Captain Car Key to me.
I Googled the name in Rockland County, NY and found a phone number and posted it here.
It appears to have been edited out by someone. Perhaps Captain Car Key is a franchise with one near you?
Many have posted that Volvo dealers won't touch fobs/remotes/keys purchased independently.
Depending on how much you spent it may be wisest to return the ones you bought for refund and go to your Volvo dealer.
We know it hurts.
