Default 04 xc70 high beams won't light. Switch at 12

Hello and thank you in advance :}

This is my first XC70 that I've just purchased.
I have fixed a number of items but this high beam thing has got me stumped.

The service manual is on order....

High beams will not come on.
As per other threads,,,
I've switched the CEM high beam relay (position #4) with others... the relay does click, but still no high beams?

The headlight switch does not pull out like on some other models I've read about. I'm not sure if someone replaced it with the wrong component of if it's just not a pull out type?

No message via the message center about anything wrong with the headlights.
The blue indicator on the dash lights up like normal.
Bulbs check good.
No power at bulb connectors.
Fuse inside and fuses under the hood check good and all three have power to them.
I"m not sure if it's a relay, headlight switch or CEM problem?

See the video of the fuse/relay box and headlight switch here-

Video of the CEM and relays here -

Headlight switch is at 12,..

Thanks again,
Yonar AKa Randy :}

did you probe to see if the switch is good? how about the multi-function stalk? Check the wiring diagrams to see if the high beams actually relay through the CEM or which relay position (note on my S40, only the low beams go via the CEM, the high beams have their own stand alone relays). You can also find owners manuals on line which should have the fuse box layouts (ie google "2004 Volvo XC70 owners manual". You can google "2004 volvo V70 headlght switch replacement" for the process of removing the dash trim to access the switch - that may give you room to probe or remove to test.

Thanks for the reply,

I'll probe the switch, but is there electronics in the switch or is it just a switch? and I'm not sure about the stalk... but...
Like I said in the post... the indicator light comes on and the high beam relay that is in the #4 position on the CEM does click...of which I've switched relays around to no avail... humm

So it seems that the stalk is switching the relay and turning on the indicator.
stumped so far...
Thank you

found this...

https://www.pelicanparts.com/techart...eplacement.htm

which maybe useful. if the CEM is in play, then you may be able to probe the connector there as well

I probed the switch itself and I can't get any continuity from any of the 3 terminals.
I'm getting battery voltage from the two out side terminals at the plug and like 9volts from two others..

the switch at the 9pm position lets the low beams come on and when the high beams are activated the high beam indicator comes on but won't stay on like it's supposed to do ... flash only.
the center placement of the switch turns on the parking lights... only
at the 12pm position the high beam indicator lights and stays on but no high beams...

The link above is to a different model...

Thanks
