Default 2004 xc70 strut/shock replacement

I have 94k on the xc and have never replaced any struts or shocks. It has been riding hard now and I want to replace what necessary to get another 50k out of her. Should I replace both fronts and rears at the same time or just do the fronts now and check the handling. I think the springs are fine, but should I repace the spring bushings, mounting plates, boot etc I can get the the parts cheap so I just have some additional labor.

Any comments would be helpful

Hey, I have the exact same car and need to replace all of that stuff now as well. I dont have an answer for you, but I would love to know where you are getting the parts for cheap. These things add up quick!!

Also replace the springs.
For one thing these cars known to break and the other is that at 100K miles they're probably shot.
Look at this pictures of my 2007.
This XC has 110,000 miles, I just replaced every suspension part, struts, shocks, springs, mounts, etc.

Mind you this was/is an excellent XC, nothing was broken, just original.
It must have raised back up by at least an inch and a half, the springs were so weak and had collapsed!

IMO
measure the ride height first, if no change from original, don't need to change.

If the car only rebounds a little when you bounce on the bumper I don't see why you would replace struts.

Thanks for the suggestion but I just got the fronts done with all components except the springs. There is a noticeable improvement in the ride and the ground clearance has never been an issue- and I would know it if it was. This is my wifes car and it only travels an easy 10-11 k per year.

Any suggestion as to whether I should replace the rears? I can't really tell if they are worn. Great pic of your xc!!
