Also looking to replace my rear shocks. Got quoted $450 for just the rear...I know Volvo parts are expensive but that's outrageous. How hard is it if I were to replace them...and where would I purchase the parts?

I replaced the struts and shocks all around. I also replaced the strut mounts. With 95,000 on my 2002 V70 T5 it was time. It made a huge difference in the ride quality.

I purchased the parts for IPD and had a local tire shop do the install. Below is from my IPD invoice. Give them a call and they can talk you though the parts to make sure they are right for your specific vehicle.

Product Part Number Price Qty Total
Shocks & Struts (Sachs/OEM) - Shock Rear FWD 9200406 $81.51 2 $163.02
Shocks & Struts (Sachs/OEM) - Strut Front 8667253 $150.98 2 $301.96
Upper Spring Mount Front - Upper Spring Mount 8646713 $20.10 2 $40.20

Total Order Value = $505.18
Shipping = $25.36

Total = $530.54

Good Luck

Assuming the OEM are the cheapest replacement? I'm not familiar with the rear system on the V70s...and the vehicle is not available for me to look at right now...is it your basic shock swap job?

I think the backs are a simple swap. I am not exactly sure because I had someone else do the work.

I used the OEM parts because there was no guessing in ride comfort/performance.

I am doing mine this weekend and using Billstein Touring from fcpgroton. I got some struts from a guy in Fla for $120 for the pair. They have never been on his car cause he bought them and ended up going with Koni's instead. This is on my 850 not on the V70 though. People really seem to like the Billstein Touring and not the Billstein Heavy Duty.

anyone know about the self-leveling rear end? on some v70's. how do you tell if your car has it? apparently it affects the types of shocks you can order.

Default Nivomat

Boge/Sachs made the Nivomat self-leveling rear shock for the 960 sedan and these were expensive. The technology is proven and reliable but they don't last forever and are expensive to replace. The Nivomat is known as the self-pumper; it pumps up the shock and levels the car using the up and down motion of the shock.
