Question 2011 XC-70 Erratic Fuel Gage

For the last 6 months, I have noticed that my fuel gage has been acting erratic. For instance, I will fill it up the tank on the way home and it will show full. The next morning it will show 1/2 full or 3/4 full and will very slowly move up as I drive the car - it can take 30 minutes or more for the level to move back up. It seems as if the float for the sending unit (does it even have a float?) is getting stuck or maybe has a hole in the float. It doesn't seem like an intermittent connection but again I have no idea of what the system architecture is or how it works. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't worry about it. The only thing that you can do is change the sending unit.

That's the direction I am leaning towards. The earlier V-70/XC70 series had an access panel in the floorboard to get to the fuel pump/sender without R&R of the tank. Does anyone know if the next series (2008 on) maintains the access panel in the floorboard?

Can anyone tell me if the 2011 XC70 has the same fuel pump access as the earlier series: under the rear seats via screw-on covers. Also does it use the same special tool to unscrew the retainer ring as used in the earlier series?

There are no access panels. The tank needs to be removed. And you can only replace the sending unit on the pump side (as part of the pump). The other one is integrated with the tank.
