I’ve just bought a 2008 XC70 D5 AWD Geartronic. I felt the pick up from standing was slow, and as I’ve no information about any work having been done on the gearbox (110K miles) I thought I’d change the fluid.

When I undid the small drain plug 1.2 litres of black ATF came out. I duly removed the big plug and another 2 litres + came out. I’ve re-filled to the level with new ATF, and will repeat the process after a few weeks use.

Any thoughts please on what having too much ATF might do to the box?

I’m told these boxes adjust to the drivers “style”. I wonder if an old lady had the car before, and my driving style is probably more “enthusiastic”, shall we say. Is there any way to speed this process up.

A Volvo garage talked about re-programming the box. Any info or thoughts on that would be welcome; it’s all new to me although this is my 9th Volvo, but all but one, and that years ago, have been manuals.
