Parking Emergency Brake Adjustment on Volvo XC-70 - 2003
I just searched the web and found no clear and simple explaination of how to do this.
It is incredibly simple.
The parking brake lever has a gold nut that adjusts the lever to take up slack as the cable stretches and the brakes wear. The difficult task is to find it.
At the base of the lever there is a longish ( 7 inch ? ) narrow ( 1.5 inch?) plastic plate that clicks into the centre console on the drivers side of course. The rubber boot attaches to this and the lever goes down through it. This plate can be lifted out by prying around the edges with a fine/med slot screwdriver at a couple of points. Once loose, lift it up over the lever, inverting the rubber boot. A white plastic rectangular shroud about 2 by 1 by 3 will be seen to cover part of the lever near to its base. This picots away by hand revealing the nut on the end of the emergency cable.
As always, take tension off of the lever ( lower it) and then tighten the nut ( Clockwise) until the lever now pulls taught in 4 to 6 clicks, as you prefer.
Best of luck!
