Default Xc70 tailgate worry

Hi folks, new here and recently purchased an xc70 diesel 2012 model. Impressed so far but really worried about the tailgate for two reasons. Firstly I'm worried that it could come open while driving and my dog could fall out. I've pressed the button on the dash to try and make this happen (obviously without the dog in the car) and it didn't open which is great but heard a few stories that it can if there's a fault and guess I'm looking for some sort of reassurance. Second issue....3 days after getting the car I was in tesco and turned round to find my dog in the shop. Now I'm guessing the key fob has pressed against something gin my pocket therefore opening the tailgate so is there a way to disarm this function when I get out the car! Many thanks in advance

My guess is that the handle on the trunk needs lubrication and that it is partially stuck or compressed(?). If found this out when I would touch the cabin button or the fob button and the lift would partially move and then reset to closed.

If you lubricate the handle and latch and work it, it should move freely - then the buttons work and you also know it is latched.

Other than that - you may have a very smart dog.

Good luck.
