1989 240 DL, CD deck acting strange
Hi everyone, I recently purchased a beautiful 1989 240 DL wagon, and installed a pioneer CD player in it, but it's giving me some trouble. The speakers will work for 15-25 seconds or so, then there's a popping sound and I get silence, if I turn the deck off for a bit I can repeat the cycle, throughout this occurrence the head unit operates just fine.
One thing I noticed as odd when I was doing the install, was that the grey wires from both doors (I'm assuming these, and not the yellow/grey wires, were the negatives) had continuity to the same brown wire leading into the original tape deck, and so I attached the negatives from both front speaker outputs on the deck to the same wire, is this a mistake on my part? are my speakers shot perhaps? is there a stock amp in there I should have bypassed?
Any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Hi raginranger,
Yes. There is a stock amp located behind and slightly beneath the glove compartment. It is either 15W or 20Watt.
Connect the head unit speaker inputs to the speakers after the amp.
Some have spliced the wires, others have used 3M style crimp connectors to bypass the OEM amp harness.
Best of success,
