Default aftermarket radio in 99 s70. pocket on top or on bottom and how did you guys mount it

I got my new head unit and the harness and the pocket all installed today.

my issue is the kit for the pocket was just that. the pocket. it slides in and locks down kind of although the clips on the metra kit are weak. I feel the are barely attached to the pocket and will need longer mounting screws soon.

but that leaves me wondering how do you solidly mount the head unit?

it can go on top of pocket or on bottom.

my paricular head unit is a single din JVC KD-AVX44 and its about 2x as heavy as a normal deck and I have had all brands and dozens of them ..but thats another story.

right now its just slid in there but it could be removed with no real effort and I dont like that.

because of the weight I am going to pull it out tomorrow and see if there is more of a base on the bottom of the area rather than the deck sitting on the wobbly pocket.

what did you guys do exactly to secure the head unit? is there another kit?

On my 850 the pocket is on the bottom. I had enough room top and bottom to lock the metal receiver for my unit and hold it in good.

how did you lock the deck in ? that is my question. the placement of the pocket is secondary

primary concern is how to keep deck in the dash. I was thinking I might have to use the cage and secure it in place. right now the deck is just sitting on top of the pocket.

going to mess with more today.

I took the deck out and looked.

there is more surface area to support the unit if you mount it on bottom so that is what I did.

I took the mount cage and popped it in the bottom and bent 2 tabs on each side. its secure.

put the pocket on top.

deck can be put in either location. there is a little more surface area on bottom then there would be if it was sitting on top of the pocket. so that is why I choose the bottom. my deck is also at least 2x heavier than any of the recent models I have used so I wanted as much support as I could. fyi
