Default CD player died s70

I have a 1998 s70 T5 and I really love Cds and hate the Radio..... So how should I go about fixing this problem. Should I get a new head. Or should I try to find a replacement of the same one.

If I go with option A what will I need?
(and I will need to know every last detail becasue I have absolutly no idea on how to do stereo stuff)

And for option B where and how much should I expect to pay?

Any help will be greatly appreciated
Nick

If this is the radio you have in the car, then it looks likea twinDIN mount. You can get an aftermarkethead unit like kenwood or apline and itmight just slide inone ofthe open slots. That is whatI did in my 91 745t. My Alpine slide in andfit perfectly. Most of the time, aftermarket head units come with some sort of intruction on how toconnect the wires. You will need to find the wire diagrams for thecar's stero, and it shouldtake 2 hours, from start to finish,to find the wires and connect them. But if you do that, scine the stock unit is a twinDIN and the aftermarketunit will probably be a singleDIN (though they do make twinDIN styles), there will be a gap below the head unit. Tools needed: wire cutter, wire stripper, electrical tape, solder gun (optional), and maybea pick to get the unit out, music and something to drink (would also help). Or you could have it done buy BestBuy or some one you know could help you.Or you could find a stock replacement at a junkyard or on ebay or even in the for sale section of this form, and just plug it in and enjoy (you will need to find the model number). Good luck. Maybe some one who has done this on their S70 would like to assist futher?

Hey there...i had the same problem with my radio (cd player died!!!). My advice, go with plan a and like TIPSP said go with one of those radios...i had an alpine (really good headunits!) that fit on the bottom part andall i needed was a pocket to fill the top part..case closed! also, for the alpine, i bought a wiring harness for it and it made the job 100 times easier.. You can buy tthe harness and pocket on crutchfield..well worth the money trust me, especially if you're not used to this stuff..g'luck

To replace with a stock stereo is very easy. Press the two thin buttons on the side with your nails or a key and they will pop out. They are handles to pull on, and the stereo will just pop out. Disconnect, reconnect, done.

For a single DIN. You will just need to buy a pocket to fill the other half of the hole, they run about 10-15 dollars, aswell as a wiring harness (DONT cut wires. This just causes problems). The harnesses are color coded, very easy to hook up.

For a Double DIN. I will be doing this with my car in the new year. You will need to do some cutting (Oh shi-!). Yes, there are rails that the stock deck slides on and hooks too. Once this is removed, the stock deck cannot be put back in. Other than removing the rails, same goes as single DIN, minus the pocket.
