Default stock radio trouble

I recently bought a 1997 850 R Wagon. The stereo is only generating sound out of the two dash speakers and the passenger door speaker. There is a very small amount coming out of the rear door speakers (at full volume) and none out the rear D pillar speakers. It sounds like a head unit issue to me but I wanted to ask you guys what you thought before I went out and made some attempt at fixing it. Also is it possible to run an ipod through the CD changer connection in the back of the head unit? Very happy with my new car otherwise.

P.S. If I do need to change out the head unit and probably speakers what would you recommend for a reasonably priced stereo.

Thanks,
Chet

Blown speakers is a more likely answer. Purchase a Blitzsafe or USAspec iPod adapter to work through the changer connections. Speaker choice is subjective, just buy what sounds good for the music you listen to normally.

So I took the stereo out of the dash. I found that the stereo was prewired for a cd changer, or it came with one and was removed. Does anyone know where it was located when stock? I looked under the front seats and in as many places as I could think of in the hatch area and didn't find any RCA wires.

Thanks,
Chet

Here's like the stereo bible I found when searching for what to do when replacing speakers and what not. If you have anymore issues this should help you out.

You can also go on to Crutchfield http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/a...r%2fMyCar.aspx and use their fitting guide and see the peakers that will fit. They stock a ton of stuff for most cars. That's how I got my Boston speakers....

Thanks that "Bible" was great, and crutchfield is a great resource. I found that the speaker sizes that they state for the 850 are incorrect but they have pretty good prices. Thanks for all of your help.

oh take a deep breath, put a meter on the leads in the harness. Find out which one comes on with the key, thats the one that has to be power for the new radio. If you dont have a meter then get a cheap 99 cent 12vdc tester from auto store, will work fine.
