Question about aftermarket CD player

Question about aftermarket CD player

I have a 1998 S90 and it only has the stock cassette player. My father is telling me I could buy a 6 disc CD changer and just play CDs off that but I'm telling him we need to buy a head unit to play CDs. Which one of us is right?

Yeah, there's a button for it but there isn't a slot for CDs
