Default VOLVO 850 ENGINE REBUILD - Common Questions and Answers

I've been researching a lot and Google endless amounts of words to try and find wisdom on the subject, but really!? Some people on forums are just insane, and have no idea what they are saying and by the end of a semi-helpful thread its just bashing, name calling, and 2 year old arguments! Which is why I came to this forum! Things start to make more sense when I post a thread here and its not just another lost forgotten thread.. I unfortunately don't have too much time tonight as I have to get up veryy early tomorrow but I'm so excited for this rebuild that I wanted to post a thread and reserve a space for my questions if that's alright. I know I'll have a bunch of them and I want to try and keep everything in one thread to spare cluttered forums, and also possibly help other people like me out that have the same questions. I will post up all my current questions tomorrow so be prepared! Its mostly stuff about budget, part recommendations, and terms that people use that go right over my head! I have a local machining shop picked out already I here they are very decent guys and have great prices and experience. Thanks in advance!

OK here's my first question.. I just bought an engine for my Volvo 850 Turbo, I want to know what type of things are easier (smart) to replace before the new engine goes in.. I don't know if there is some type of list of gaskets or anything that commonly go bad? I just don't want to get it in and find a problem that could have been simply avoided, thanks!

Well...it's a couple months late, but I know of a couple common places oil leaks develop. First off, the oil line to the turbo (or something like that). There's a small gasket you can replace to prevent the leak. Also, have your PCV system redone, it's kind of a pain to do once everything is in the car and it's also a common place for oil leaks, so getting it done now would be a good idea.
