Volvo 850glt 1996
Hi on a 850glt Volvo auto -engine has hard starting -got to crank it for a while and if it starts -its got a retarded rev and misses and wants to cut off up to about 3000rpm - if its revved over 3000rpm its fine -but when u leave the accelerator pedal it cuts out -done compression test all cyl.
Above 1200kpa. -checked plug gap and ht. leads all okay also firing -even fed direct power to fuel pump ,still hard start -i was told if it starts and runs fault won't be cam and crank sensor---could fault be mass air flow sensor or what ?
Need ur help and advice

First things first:
You have a 96 model, that means that your car has a OBDII port. I suggest that you borrow a code reader and post the results here.
2nd: I'm assuming that you have the FWD version. That means that to tow the car with the from wheels on the ground the tranny has to be in N and not exceed above 30mph. Since you towed it while the tranny was in Reverse I'm afraid that you might have broken something.
I lost reverse on my 850 when I accidentally cut a wire that controls solenoid A in the transmission. If you had your car sitting for a while in your yard, maybe mice/rats chewed on the harness. This is common! This is not hard/expensive to fix, but its time consuming.
For the hard start, it is something either in the fuel or air system. I suggest that you pressure test the fuel stem and look for air leaks in the vacuum lines and after the MAF. I fixed intermittent shutdowns in my 850 after replacing the fuel filter and the fuel pump relay.
Get those engine codes read ASAP!
