Default 1992 Volvo Winter Mode

I own a 1992 Volvo 960 with 210,000 miles and plan to keep it running for 2 more years.
My big problem now is some times the mode switch says I'am in winter mode but the car is not in winter mode and after a few minutes it goes back to economy. And it takes about 5 miles on the highway before it will go into converter lockup.
I changed the pnp switch and no difference.

Thanks

I checked the code this weekend, I checked block A pin 1 and I got code 142. Does anyone know what this code is?

Thanks

If the code 142 is the only code that came up then the trans might be slipping.
That code means the Trans fluid was overheated. Most likely from slipping.
