Hey Marvin, the turbo turns all the time since it's in the exhaust line.
The big thing to know and understand is that you should NOT boost it until the car warms up. Then you should NOT turn the car off right after you boost, it needs to cool off a minute or two or it will cook the oil in it. Other than that you can keep your foot in it from a to b, as long as you can afford the tickets.
You just don't want to cause wear and abuse by not letting it warm up and cool off properly. I probably get in mine at least once per day to get out of someone's way. I look at it's speed as a safety feature.

I usually drive my wife's sedan moderately, since really pushing it results in spinning one wheel. There's an on-ramp I take on the way to work daily. That's my favorite part of the commute, winding it out in third and enjoying the boost. Like rspi said, allow time for the car to warm up and cool down, to prolong the life of the turbo. I still have a few miles left on the drive after merging with traffic on the freeway.

Marvin, my wagon is a manual-swap. Heading towards the on-ramp, I'll coast down a long hill in 5th. I'll downshift to 3rd to help slow from the 50 to 35mph limit. Once I make it around the bend, onto the on-ramp, that's when the fun starts. Anything over 3500 rpm turns my day right around! If you like a manual, and are on the fence about swapping your car, DO IT! I like my wife's almost identical car, but love driving my wagon.
