Default 2001 V40 Windshield Wiper Question

Have a 2001 V40 that I bought used just recently. Never had used the windshield wipers. Well today we've received three inches of rain and of course they don't work very well. Local parts store sold me replacement blades, 21 on the driver and 20 on the passenger. Installed them but there is a strange thing going on. On the upswing, when the passenger blade reaches the 1clock position it lifts completly off the windshield, then on the downswing goes back to make contact. Can't seen that anything is bent. I'm stumped...

It is a common problem on the 850 too.

Most people bend the arm to achieve better fit. I took a different route and used a half-washer method (bought a 2mm-thick washer at a local hardware store and cut them in half, then installed it between the pivot and the arm so that the arm was sitting at an angle and this achieved better fitment/more positive pressure on the windshield).

I hope this gives you some ideas.

It sounds like they may have sold you the right length, but possibly the wrong attachment. This is a common mistake - not all wipers fit all wiper arms. When the attachment is incorrect, it can bind at the hindge and cause weird behavior similar to what you're experiencing.

You can double-check your parts store's work by looking it up online (search "lookup wiper size"). NEVER buy wipers by length only!!!!

Hope this helps!!

this kit from TCP does the trick quite well

http://tcp-productions.com/Products/...epair-kit.aspx

shims it up, and makes it easy enough to install.
