My "check engine" light just came on. I've only had car for like a month, so I am not that familiar with it. Is the dealer the only one who can read the OBDII codes?, or can I buy a scanner somewhere for it?
the aftermarket scanner can also scan & clear OBD codes. but they r so limited to the function, ie unable to activite function, read parameter, testing or diagnosis... therefore rather spending the money on something that may not b able to fix your car. i would rather go to the dealer for a proper diagnosis first. sometimes there are recall or extend warrenties (depending on the item), which it may no charge
