86 Volvo 740 GLE radio wiring
Hello, I have an 86 740 GLE and am trying to install an aftermarket Panasonic stereo. The factory radio is model number td3141. I have taken the stereo out and seen the wiring. I know there is a factory amp. However, everything is hard wired in the amp. There is a round plug on the back of the factory stereo. I was wondering if I cut the plug off, would I be able to wire in the stereo using the harness that came with it and run it using the factory amp wiring? Or could I buy an adapter for plug that goes to rca cables that I could plug into the Panasonic stereo ‘pre-out rear plug’? I’m sorry if this is confusing. I haven’t wired in many stereos on these cars. Thanks
Easiest would be to find the amp (mounted under left side of dash I think) - find the amp, (eliminate it) and use the speaker wires on the amp to connect your new tuner to. The speaker wires (plugged into the amp) should pull over to the area of your new tuner.
Thanks for the reply. Gave me a better idea as to what’s going on. The amp has no ‘plugs’ it just has two sets of wires going in and then a large black wire that is the plug for the amp to the factory radio. What wires would go to what, and how should I connect them? I just need to get the speaker wires from the amp to the radio compartment to hardwire together. Thanks again and sorry if this doesn’t make sense. I just haven’t found any forms regarding my situation.
Yes I did. I ordered the installation kit and have that fitted to the new radio. None of the wiring harnesses from them are useful with the way that the amp is set up and such. Anyways.. thanks for the reply.
