93 240 power steering pump belt adjustment

93 240 power steering pump belt adjustment
On my 1993 240 I replaced the alternator belts and also the AC compressor belt. Now I find the power steering pump belt is loose. I backed off the adjustment all the way and find that I can move the power steering pump back and forth from stop to stop and at no point is the belt tight. It was tight before I replaced the compressor belt. Is it possible the power steering belt has stretched so much that it now can not be adjusted? Or is there something I have overlooked? Dave
