'96 Volvo 850 Chugging on Start Up
Hello!
Over the last few months my 850 has developed an intermittent start up and take-off problem...
On ignition it will sometimes 'cough' as though it is taking time for the fuel to kick in and if it is really coughing I will need to trick it into start up by putting a little gas on.
As I accelerate it can sometimes keep coughing and not responding well to the gas pedal until I pick up speed, but once full throttle and on the open road it runs absolutely fine. If, however, I need to slow down, crawl or generally do low speed manouvres and lose momentum it is not happy at all and can sometimes sputter and cut out..leading to a carefully executed re ignition...
Also strangely when it has been standing for a good few hours/overnight it will start much more easily, almost as though it needs the fuel to have completely dissipated before it can start up smoothly.
I'm gutted as I've had the 'beast' as I call it for nearly three years now and bit by bit I've replaced the radiator, wheel disks, clutch and starting it has always previously been a dream - I even left it standing for a month during January when the coughing started and gingerly twisted the key in Feb for it to start first time!
Would be really grateful for any ideas and advice please... I had a hairy 200 mile drive the other day hoping I wouldn't need to encounter too many traffic lights!
Thanks and hope I'm posting in the right place!
