Air Conditioning
Ok, so what is the deal with Volvo's less that effective ac units? I had a '94 940 and it only worked sometimes and didn't blow very cold when it did blow. My mom had a 740 that didn't work at all and now I have a '90 240 that I just purchased, it's clean and has been well maintained, but once again, the ac doesn't blow cold. Does anybody have some insight as to the "why?" of this problem, or better yet, a solution to this problem? It really would be nice if I could make it work.

RE: Air Conditioning
I don't know when the last time it was charged. From what I've read it sounds more cost effective to convert it to R134. Can you speak on the effectiveness of such a change? Does this somehow improve the performance of the AC? I'm still looking for an answer as to the "why" Volvo AC units seem to be so ineffective. Anybody?

RE: Air Conditioning
You might loose a little bit of Coldness with the 134 system. But in the end it is way better to do it. Also if you convert to 134A install a cooling fan on the front of the condensor that will help it blow colder.
The early systems were not as good as the 850 and newer systems. But they need top be working in tip top shape to work good.
Most of the older cars being even a 1/4 LB low they don't work right.
