Default Average Longevity of Volvo Vehicles

Hey guys, just curious if there is a article or stat out on the average miles people get out of volvo cars. My wife and I are looking at possible a xc40 or 60. Don't know much about the reliability of Volvo though. I hope its more than 150k miles before it totally craps out like all my previous american cars lol.

Thanks for any and all input guys.

Just started looking at the xc40 and 60 and boy are they nice. Wow. Wont be able to afford a new one but hopefully a used one from a dealer will be in our price range.

As with any car, good care will extend the life. There's no reason you should expect less than 200K miles with proper maintenance. As for me, my 95 850T was retired at 250K miles this past year when my daughter was gifted a 2008 by her aunt, my son's daily driver is a 2000 S40 with about 130K miles so you can see these cars can last 20+ years (note both have been owned since new).

My 06 S-80 5T is at 182K miles and runs great. I am going to change out the front CV axels and replace many of the rubber hoses soon though because of some vibration and deterioation in the hoses...

The pre 1995 Red Blocks went virtually forever, I keep mine and they just go on, 240k, 378K, etc. I tried to transition to the newer FWD White Block stuff but sadly, they fall far short. The transmissions seem to last 100k, the maintenance is much higher, interiors fall apart much faster. I'd not buy a newish Volvo but a Lexus or a Toyota. Sorry.

I have owned 5 Volvos including my current 2015.5 V60. Here is how they fared:

1960 122S: 7 years, 132K miles succumbed to terminal rust as did most cars in those days
1976 265: 4 years, 48K miles - traded at the first hint of the camshaft problems that plagued the Volvo Peugeot Renault V6 - also had continual fuel injector issues.
2003 V70T (bought 2006) 11 years 147K miles - lost a cylinder - sold - didn't want to invest more than the value of the car in repair
2009 V70 3.2 (bought 2017) 1.5 years 148K miles - traded when suspicious noises began in transmission area (noisy when cold)
2015.5 V60 (bought 2018 -CPO) 48K miles - warranty repair on starter

My take - 150K and then budget for repairs - e.g. fuel rail pressure sensor on 2009 V70 - little plastic part $350+

Iíve had six Volvoís since 1982, all purchased new. All of them went 200-250K before I replaced them, and they were replaced because I wanted something new.

Put differently, in 1.4 million miles driving Volvoís, Iíve been stranded by the roadside twice. My 1982 244 DL threw a fan belt around 120K, and my 2003 S80 has a fuel pump fail at around 150K/14 years. I think thatís a pretty good record.

2001 V70 checking here with 185k on the clock, all systems solid. Bought two years ago at 140k. Had to replace the ETM around ~145k as is typical with this model year but no other mechanical problems apart from a well-meaning Good Samaritan that murdered my radiator by trying to pull me out of a snowy ditch. Had to do the AC "bread clip" trick last summer but that's been good ever since.

Girlfriend had a 1993 940 that she sold at ~201k in 2011. Was from the desert so looked brand new at the time.
