Ive seen the pics showing where to find engine number on my 2006 XC 70. One person on this forum was particularly helpful. However, its almost impossible for me to get any tool in there to clean of corrosion. There is also a manifold cover hiding a part of the plate. Can engine numbers be looked up by VIN number? I hate to go to a dealer just to look up the engine number but am thinking I may have to.

 

the vin has the engine family and the chassis serial number but not the engine block's serial number. Uually parts can be matched based on the engine family and chassis but you can always call a dealer or a volvo friendly web store like FCP to see what part number would apply

 

The problem is Im ordering timing belt kit and it shows two different kits for two different engine numbers for 2006 Volvo XC 70.

 

I have never heard someone actually pronounce v.i.n as the individual letters until now.
