Demise of the S60??
Gordon 368 will be happy to know that Volvo indicates that the S80 will live on but that they may kill the S60. Autoweek of 20 March has an article with quotes from Volvo planning chief, Lex Kerssemakers and design chief, Steve Mattin indicating that since the next generation of the S40/V50 is due in 2010 and will be 'stretched' to a longer wheel base, it will probably be the end of the S60 as the S40 will have a length of 177 inches which encroaches on the S60. Volvo states that they will continue with the upscale S80. Volvo says that they want to "enter new segments.............." and they are exploring "the sports car market.........." Mattin furthered by stateing that "sports cars add sex appeal." The S80 is 191 inches. The S40 will be 177 inches and the new C30s will replace the 'old' size S40. Apparently Ford has the final word and the rumor from them is that the S60 sells well and so they may well continue it. Unfortunately Volvo indicates that they only have so much investment cash and Volvo wants to explore "new segments" such as sports cars.

RE: Demise of the S60??
Just give me anything with style, speed and rear wheel drive. I never cared for the 240 as far as looks. I thought the looks of the 760/740 was ok, but I really like the looks of the 850. The 1800 would be pretty cool though. The S70 has not been gone long enough to bring that back, but the 1800 has.
