Dim digital text in cluster in sunlight '99S80
This is on a 1999 S80. The text messages in the cluster won't get bright enough in sunlight that I can read them. They are easily visible at night and the scroll **** by the headlight switch works when it is dark. I can sit in a closed garage and turn the **** up and down and the lights get brighter and dimmer and able to read easy in the dark.. If I leave the dimmer on low and back out of the garage in daytime these messages will brighten up to the same level they would be at if the dimmer **** were turned all the way up. Surprisingly this happens even when I have the ambient light sensor at the top center of the dash covered completely with black tape. The system is sensing sunlight from somewhere but not from the sensor built into the red security warning light. I replaced the red LED security sensor with another and it made no difference. Since when I have the dimmer **** turned down and back out of the garage the messages brighten even when the LED is covered is there a second light sensor? Or is the ambient light sensor not really in the LED piece? Also the message in the radio face acts the same.
I am trying to get this fixed and need some help.
