Does everyone experience the dreaded "service engine" light issue?
I'm new to this forum so forgive me if this is redundant. I'm thinking about purchasing a new or used (2003-4) xc70 or a v70 but it seems there is a pervasive problem with the Volvo service engine lights sporadically lighting up.
Is this an issue with all Volvo autos? Does everyone experience the issue? Is there a way to manually (without mechanic) override it or reset it? Basically, what's the situation?
Thanks to everyone in advance.

RE: Does everyone experience the dreaded "service engine" light issue?
I'm considering Volvo as an option for a car purchase, but I do not own one yet. The engine light indication has come up with friends of mine who own various models (s60s, xc70s mostly). There are quite a few forum conversations regarding this, and so, I'm interested in know whether it's something I should expect with a Volvo or if it's hit or miss.
Simply put, I want a reliable car that doesn't need to be every month, so issues like this worry me.
I really appreciate your thoughts on the matter.

My Volvo (which is an older model) has a "service" light; it's just a reminder to check your oil every 3000 miles but that may be different than what you are talking about. I would check the owner's manual (if you can find one) to see what the light indicates. I would highly recommend a Volvo to you. Good luck!
