Hello everyone, i have run into problems with my v40. It sarted to suddenly loose power and the sound of blown exhaust so i took it to kwik fit garage who showed me the hole in mid section of exhaust and said the problem might be the end section being blocked up. However after leaving there to drive home the car broke down and i got towed home as i couldnt get it to move. It will slightly move in 1st gear but now i cant get reverse at all, when i was driving and broke down i did notice that the centre console where the gear stick area is was very hot. Someone said something about the catalitic converter probably broke and blocked exhaust and the generated heat may have caused burn damage to something related to why i lost reverse gear, thinking about it i was smelling burning rubber smell whilst driving but thought that was just the exhaust prob. Anyone have any ideas, it is 1998 reg with 173k miles. Many thanks.

 

just thinking about this, i dont know if its just reverse i,ve lost as i only noticed this and the heat from around the gearstick when i broke down and couldnt drive, so therefor i may not have any gears so it could be the clutch, and could it be that what was the smell of burning rubber.
