Help! My volvo won't start
Hello,
I am new to this forum and need assistance with an issue my volvo is having. It is a 1999 Volvo S70. I have had to do minor repairs on it in the last two years.
Last year I replaced the alternator with a rebuilt one. In the last 2-3 months it has had difficulty starting once in a while or it has stalled.
Two weeks ago I went away for a week and a half and it would not start when I returned. I had it jumped and it started. I left it running for about an hour, but when I shut if off and went to restart it, it would not start again.
Yesterday I cleaned off the battery (which is only 1 year old) terminals and tried to start it again and again it would not start. I noticed there was a clicking type noise when I tried to start it and it continued about 10 seconds after I removed the key.
Today a friend brought over a battery meter and the battery read 8.4 volts. We then jumped it and the battery read 13 volts which would tell me that the altenator is charging.
I believe the starter may be bad. Can anyone tell me what they think is wrong?

Low battery. Maybe something is draining it when you have it sitting. A 1 hour recharge from the car running is not enough time to properly recharge it. I believe the car needs about 9.5 volts to operate properly and if you check voltage while starting it probably falls below 5 with the starting drain from the started.
Again, you probably have a slow drain while parked. Search the S70 and 850 threads for battery drain problems.
