Inquiring about an '01 S60 2.4T
I am looking into buying an '01 S60 2.4T and would like some feedback about this car. Its has 107, 533 miles on it.
I have been in the Toyota Taco MODin world, but have never dealt w/ any Volvos. I currently have a Tacoma XRunner that is S/C'd, so I have a descent grasp of F/I vehicles. Unfortunatley I have to sell it....
What kind of performance MODs are you folks going w/ on the S60 2.4T....ie ECU Upgrades, downpipes, cat-backs and intakes? What kind of gains(dyno #s) have been gained w/ such MODs?
Thanks for the feedback....

I'm far from the ultimate expert here, but two things jump out at one who has read these boards with some interest. First, were the timing belt and related assemblies replaced? That's due really soon, if not overdue. Second, 01's aren't famous for long-lived, ultra-reliable transmissions. Has anybody checked the fluid (not as easy to do as one might think) and when was it last replaced? If I were you, I'd look for every '01 transmission thread here and study them.
I guess there's a third. While I have no first had experience, most long-term Volvoistas here don't recommend spending a lot of your money on performance upgrades for normally aspirated Volvos where equivalent turbo models are available since you'll spend more than the price premium for a turbo and still not have a car that performs as well as a turbo.
Volvos are not Toyotas and don't seem to respond well to neglect. A carfax is sometimes useful as many are dealer serviced and those reports made. An inspection my a Volvo-knowledgeable mechanic is the best investment.
There are other issues relating to fuel management which may have been resolved on this car via recall.
