RE: Air Filters
OEM Mann Filterpart numberC 35 148
To replace, open the hood, go to air filter box on the left side of the car (says TURBO on my T5). Open the filter box by snapping clips off with your hand. Removethe old filter and install the new one. Make sure the new filter is correctly fit otherwise dirt can get into your engine. Snap the clips on and your ready to go. It shouldn´t take more than a minute and no tools are necessary..

RE: Air Filters
I would allow at least two minutes. Some of those clips are hard to find and very hard to push back on, but less than three minutes totat for sure. I just bought the Mann filters from fcpgroton along with 10 Mann oil filters. I took out the K&N that came with my 97 850 R bacause I read some stuff I didn't like about it, and I was not good about keeping it oiled just right.

RE: Air Filters
I buy them at the store where I change my oil, but I suppose you could buy them at www.fcpgroton.com or even on ebay. They are not difficult to find. You could also do the same thing Jim did and also get 10 Mann oil filters to make the S&H worthwhile.

The Mann oild filters were $3.90 each or 10 for $35.00 which comes to only $3.50 each at fcpgroten. Since I own three Volvo's that all use the same filters, buying 10 makes sense.

RE: Air Filters
I myself change it at every 1 year/10,000 miles. Hey, they are cheap.
Cleaner filter allows smoother air flow and saves fuel a bit. Also, excessively dirty filter causes starting problems. You can clean the air filter with a vacuum cleaner, as long as the filter is "dry" type. In Japanese market there are "wet" filters that has thin film of oil. They say wet-type filters catch particles better but dry type is sufficient and are easier to handle, as we-type filters cannot be cleaned.
Think of an engine like a vacuum cleaner. Filters for vacuum cleaners are a lot more expensive than automotive air filters[8D].
Good luck,
JPN
P.S: Dial-up sucks.
