I'm a newbie here, so I probably should have introduced myself in the newbie thread. I'm an old Saabophile looking to make the switch to Volvo (classic 900s are getting harder and harder to find, plus after 20 years it's time for a change!). There is a well-regarded Volvo mechanic in my town (Precision Auto, if anyone's interested), and I'm looking at buying a used Volvo for around $5000. Any advice as to models/years? I'm looking at a lot of mid-90s 850 sedans. I'd love a decent 240 but like the old 900s they seem to be harder and harder to come by.

Let us know what you're looking for in more detail; do you favor performance over reliability or vice-versa.

Personally i like the 94-97 850s and '98 S/V70s. Never driven a Saab so I can't compare though; used to drive BMWs myself.

Performance is great, but reliability is key. I'd be looking to spend around $7,000-8,000. I like the looks of the 850/S70 models, but have read mixed reviews. I'm open to suggestions.
