Default Looking to buy a used Volvo

Hello,

I'm looking at buying a used Volvo. Probably a 2004-2006 V70 wagon something around $10,000 and under 100,000 miles. I figured this would be the best place to learn about the cars from people who own them and do a most of the servicing themselves. I have never owned a Volvo before so I only know them by reputation. I have owned mostly Chevrolets and Fords a couple of Nissan products. I do most minor wrenching myself.

I live in Middle TN about an hour outside of Nashville so used high end import cars are plentiful including Volvos.

If I had a question I guess it would be is a Volvo the right product for the owner who changes his own oil, replaces his own brake pads, replaces his own belts and hoses and may upgrade the stereo and wheels? In other words, how easy are they to work on? Do they need special tools? Will I have to order parts from Sweeden?

My sister has a BMW and it's a nightmare when it comes to general servicing. If a Volvo is like that then I'll be buying another Chevrolet.

Hi Mikey and welcome to VF.

I'm not 100% sure about the model year you are looking to purchase but I have been in Volvo's since '87 and they are extreamly DIY friendly. You can check the "What Did You Do To Your Volvo Today" thread and see all the stuff I do to mine. Some of the stuff on the post '00 cars are software related but the normal maintenance is easy.

As for other issues or reviews you can check www.Cars.com to read what other owners experience.
