RE: Looking for a car
In 83 Volvo started making the 740/760 models. I don't think the Turbos came out until the 85 model year. They also made older 240 models that had Turbos, but I'm not all that familiar with them. The 740/760 models were pretty much the end of the rear wheel drive Volvos. They kind of became the 940/960 in the 90's and one year, I think 99 it was called the S90, but they were basically the same body style as the 740/760. Stay away from the non-Turbo 760 models. From what I have heard that is the worst engine ever made by Volvo.
93 was the first year for the 850, but 94 was the first year for the 850 Turbo in the USA. In 94 and 95 the Turbo was called the 850 Turbo and in 95 Vovlo came out with a T5R which was also a Turbo and had the same engine, but more HP and better suspension. (240 HP vs. 222). In 96 and 97 the T5R became the 'R' and the Turbo became just the T5. I'm not sure what year but Volvo also has a Low Pressure Turbo model that is known as the GLT. It has 190 HP.
In 98 the S70/V70 replaced the 850 Sedan/Wagon. The 'R' model has AWD and the T5 is the standard 222 HP model while the S70 and V70 GLT's have 190 HP. in 99 things kind of changed and they started making a dual Turbo model of the six cylinder S80 called the T6. I don't know much about the newer S60 and S40 models and what they offer in the way of Turbo's. I really like the looks and power of the 850 and S70/V70.
My signature shows a white 97 850R and a 98 V70 GLT.
