mysterious problem
Good day all,
I just drove from Chicago to Santa Fe and encountered a problem enroute that I cannot identify.
I was cruising at about 70 when the car suddenly shuddered. It was as if someone grabbed the car and shook it.
It was brief and then the car went on as usual.
However it began to happen again at irregular intervals and continued throughout the trip.
It seemed to happen more often at around 60...I'd feel a subtle thunk and then it would shudder as before...then resume as normal.
The engin was running fine.
The sensation was total...not just a sound that would indicate a specific part that may have come loose. It was like someone grabbing the whole car/engine and shaking it...it seemed to be coming from the front of the car but I can't be sure.
Needless to say it is very unnerving to be happening on an interstate highway miles from home.
I made calls to dealers from the car and they all said the same thing "Bring it in and have it inspected"...not much help when you are on the road.
Some felt it was the transmission. It shifted and operated normally so I'm not sure about that. One guy said it may be a loose coil...
I managed to get home and will take it in on Monday, but I am curious if anybody here can shed any light on this.
Thanks in advance
