Default New Volvo owner !!

Hello all!

Over the weekend I purchased a 98 V70R in silver.

JimKW is my father, so I'm well aware of the Volvo quality and style. I've been a BMW owner for most of my driving life, but with a baby on the way, my wife wanted a safe family car. Thanks to Volvo for making a station wagon that will seat 5 people and a dog, but still go 150MPH+

I'm going to ask for an opinion here. The guy he bought the car from made him jump through hoops and even called the credit union to verify that Justin was actually getting a loan and it was enough to buy the car. Then he actually made a three way call with Justin on the phone with the credit union while we were driving to pick it up and asked all kinds of questions. We had an inspection done by a private individual and he said the car was in great shape and was a good buy. So Justin calls the seller, they agree on a price and we say we are on our way with a certified check from the credit union. We are driving over 400 miles to get the car.

We get there and find out this guy and his wife are both attorney's. He makes us sign a contract and has his neighbor come over to witness the signing of the contract. Then to top things off he asks Justin to reimburse him for the full tank of gas over and above the price they had agreed to on the phone. He asked for it in such a way that we would have sounded like fools to say no. So Justin gave him an extra $30.00. He was such an a--hole but worded things just carefully enough that I could not call him one. My Dad taught me that when selling a car, if it has less than 1/2 a tank, fill it up. I sold a Suburban with almost a full tank of gas two years ago, and that's a 42 gallon tank.

Then when the seller was filling out the title. He was getting ready to write in the price of the car and I finally said something. I said something like we did reimburse you for the gas and whatever you write in that price box is what Justin will have to pay sales tax on. He knew what I meant, but I was careful to not say anything illegal. He did leave the spot blank after I said that.

It's a real nice car, even if the owner was a bit of a jerk.

Can we let Justin keep the 325 name on the Volvo board though?
