I plan to special order an XC70 T6. Have never owned a Volvo before (currently have a 2010 Lexus and a 2008 MB), and would like to know what people think of the current generation Sensus navigation systems. If I special order, then instead of Platinum I was considering getting Premier Plus and adding "premium sound" for $1200 and accent lighting for $100, and then using a 5" Garmin 3590LMT that I had already purchased for traveling with. Savings over the Platinum would be $1400, ignoring the $250 cost of the Garmin since I already own it.

What do people think of the functionality of current Sensus nav? I'm asking purely from the standpoint of nav capability/usability, ignoring any extra features like browser, streaming music, etc. If the Garmin GPS is at least equal, that might be the way for me to go.

well sensus isnt just navigation. sensus yould be the entire infotainment system. so sensus is the system in which everything can be seen by. so you can control the radio,bluetooth, navigation,,driver control options, etc. in my opinion the interior of a car with sensus is a lot better than a car without it.

I had to check, but my reading of the XC70 brochure http://www.volvocars.com/us/sales-se...rochure-v1.pdf is that Sensus, with a 7" screen, is standard, whether a 3.2 FWD, 3.2 AWD, or T6 ...so I don't think I'd be losing the radio controls, driver control options, etc, if I went with a T6 Premier Plus?

It that's the case, then really what it boils down to is: is the Volvo current generation navigation system good or not?...comparable to or better than current Garmin GPS units?
