Default PCV system / oil leak. 2005 XC90 2.5T

Gday
I recently bought myself a used XC90 and since then I've noticed that the PCV tube that connects into the top of the engine is cracked right off and pretty much just sitting there. I see a yellowish stain around it and near oil filler cap. Im tipping that I'll be doing the PCV replacement soon but how long can I leave it till I get the parts. Will it do any damage?...It does seem to smell a bit.

I'm not sure which tube exactly were referring to, however if it connects to the top of the engine, its probably the vacuum tube connecting the PCV system to the intake manifold. If true, this will probably cause two things. First, its a big vacuum leak which can cause the engine to run a bit strangely, and possibly throw a engine code. Second, there wont' be vacuum on the crank case, so your engine seals may leak a bit more than usual, but pressure still won't be building up so no biggy.

If the engine is running well with no codes I would probably be ok with driving it until parts arrived. But again, I can't see which hose. Good luck!

Hi thanks for that...
Its the black Brittle tube from the top of valve cover going down thru the manifold and into the black box. It stinks of burning oil and some oil vapor comes out when warm. As you say..no engine codes yet but engine seems to surge a little at stop lights. I just received my parts in the mail and just waiting for a good day to do it. That damm manifold bolt on the lowered left hand side worries me.
Also yes I see a wet oil area coming from main seal. I wonder if it will stop when i replace the pcv bits.

Hopefully that surge goes away when you get it fixed to. Vacuum leak could cause that.

Well I completely replaced the whole PCV system. Took ages to do , but all fixed. The surging has also gone. Worst part was removing the Intake manifold. After the 5 hrs that it took my body is feeling the pain. Worth it though.

Thumbs up

Congrats! I'm glad its all resolved. Anytime you have to remove the intake manifold its a pain. Give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done and money well saved.
