Default Power Steering Leak and a whirring noise

I have to top off my fluid about once a year on my '05 S60. When I went to purchase fluid from the dealer, the parts guy told me I shouldn't have to do that. He figured I had a leak. I just figured it was normal that I'd have to do this about once a year. Should I be concerned about a leak?

Also, I too, very periodically, hear a slight whirring noise when the car starts rolling from a stopped position. I thought it was tranny fluid or steering fluid, but both levels seem okay. I've not been able to isolate the noise as it only happens once a month or so. My warranty is about to end so I'd like to try to locate the source and have any potential problem fixed.

Thank you.
Karl

Try looking inside your power steering reservoir and see if you see the return line stem sticking out from the top. Sometimes air can get in the system. If you see a brass fitting or if it has broken off and fell to the bottom of the tank. Get a new tank.

That's not too bad. If you have not noticed any steering trouble, I would keep adding fluid once/year.

>whirring noise
I can only assume the ABS module executing the self-test upon rolling off, in which case it is of no concern.

See what others have to say.
