My wife lost her key so I am Down to one key.

where can I get a replacement key and program it?

The dealer wants $350 for the key and another $120 for software & another $150 to program it.

There has to be another way? I’ve heard if I buy a used key dealer will not reprogram it. True of false?

 

"Programming" the key/remote requires a VIDA subscription and a download. You can purchase a subscription and the hardware (appropriate cpu or laptop and interface) and do it your self if you want. Volvotechinfo.com sells subscriptions.

With the older remotes to "program" it you had to have a pin code and that was written on the plastic bag the new remote came in. Without that code/bag - no one can "program" a used remote.

Unfortunately keys are expensive - you might check all the dealers in your area - they can be priced differently. What's that locator - A tile? That might be worth it for those prone to lose keys.

Not to the best of my knowledge and have never heard of it done. But while I have "programmed" many keys and remotes, I have not done any of the 2008+ cars so I could be wrong.
