I just purchased a 2008 Volvo S60. The seller gave me one key that apparently is the Valet key. What kind of key(s) and/or remotes do I need?

I called a dealer and they quoted $220 for the key/remote (they said that the key only comes with a remote) and $171 to purchase two software programs and download the softawre into the key/remote.

I there a cheaper way to get a replacement key/remote?

I haven't heard of any other alternatives. I believe that your model year had the key/remote combo (like a key switchblade). Well, you can find out if your dealer will let you bring them a new uncut key (bought on ebay). That might save you a little but you are taking a risk if you buy from ebay.

 

The keys for these model years have a transponder that is set for each particular car. Your only option is the dealer. You'll probably have to show proof of ownership of the car before they will even order or cut the key.
