ok, heres the deal. im looking to upgrade my factory stereo system (what red blooded american/brit in their early 20's wouldnt, rite?). at first, i was thinking the whole deal, amps, sub-boxes, new deck, etc... now, i think i want to be sneaky, and keep it as factory looking as possible, since i now draw a lot of attention as it is (new wheels, tinted windows, and soon, some graphics, because a new paintjob is out of my budget). i was thinking replace all the standard speakers, and just add a small powered subwoofer in the cargo area. my cover would provide plenty of disguise, so it would not been seen from the outside world. so i got to looking, and with the help of www.crutchfield.com, ive learned that i need 4" speaks in the 4 doors. that only left my 2 dash speakers. so i popped the covers, and found a small cone speaker, like a component tweeter, or a really small standard cone. well, much to my suprise, i looked around the car some more, and there are 2 more of these lil buggers in the back of my cargo area (i have a wagon). so, instead of the 6 speaker system advertised on the sticker when i got it, theres 8 speaks altoegether - 4x4" (doors), 2x??" dash, and 2x??" rear...

i had no problems looking up the 4" replacements. the problem i am having, is finding replacement speakers for those little buggers in the dash and the back deck. any ideas on where to look, shop, or anything? i have tried crutchfield, and they have a lot of products to offer, including : sony, kenwood, alpine, blaupunkt, aiwa, and several more i cant remember. nothing for those sizes.

I also bought some Infinity replacements http://infinitysystems.com/caraudio/...y.aspx?Ser=REF. These are sweet. I took the covers off the third row seats and mounted the amps and crossovers there. You can hide the stuff in the wagon. I am going to add some fans soon to cool it off a bit.

 

BTW, try going to your local Tweeter store or a shop that does installs. Both can usually order what you need.

 

do they pop in/out of the wierd mounts, or do i need to make wholes and get some screws to get em in there? the dash and the rear deck have different mounts, and i have never seen a kit like this one.

 

That's a good question. I had the shop do the head replacement and the wiring. I wanted a pro to remove the dash. I had fits with the last one and it was worth it for it to be someone else's headache. On an old pair of tweets i had, there was a cup that mounted to the car. There is a two sided sticky black product that held the tweet in the cup, the stuff seemed pretty permanant. I'm sure you can use something like that to mount the tweet. You would have to look at the individual tweet to see for sure about the mount. I did drill one pair years ago.

 

You want some speakers that will blow anything else away? Try a brand called Focal. I put them in an old Porsche a few years ago and they were fantastic. Hard to find though and pretty pricey. Here's a link where I found them for you. Read up on them.
