Reset "regular maintenance required" msg
I've done a pretty complete search for the different steps in resetting the "regular maintenance required" msg, and so far...I'm either doing it wrong, or it's not the right reset steps for my car?
I have a 2002 S60 AWD.
This is the first that I've tried.
1. Press and hold trip odometer reset button
2. Turn ignition key to run position KPII (not the start position)
3. Wait 30 seconds or until service light begins blinking
4. Release Trip Odometer button
5. Turn ignition to off position
I have also tried...
Switch ignition OFF.
Press and hold the trip reset button. Switch ignition ON.
Keep the button depresseduntil the service light starts to flash (approx 10 secs).
Release the reset button within 4 seconds. There will be an audible signal when the reset is complete and the service indicator will go out. If the reset button is not released within 4 seconds the service indicator will stop flashing but will not be reset.
I then tried...
1) Turn the ignition key to position 1
2) Hold the trip odometer button down
3) Turn key to position 2
4) Hold for 10 or so seconds and then release
I did hear one beep, but I didn't see any flashing lights. This I tried a few times with no results.
Do I need to keep trying with one of theses steps? I've noticed that people have tried these steps 20 times before getting it to reset.
Any guess on which process will most likely work on mine?
Regards,
Jeff

RE: Reset "regular maintenance required" msg
Hi Jeff,
I am not privy to the S60 so this is not the best cure.
When you press whatever the button, it usually has to be pressed firmly. I am not sure why people had to try this for 20 times until they got it. I would go back and try each method once again, and if nothing helps then I would give up some $ for a dealer. If you patronise a dealer, they may reset these lights for free.
Sorry I couldn't help.

RE: Reset
I know this is a little old to help JMorse, but maybe others will benefit. I noticed he said "message." My 2002 V70 also has the message center and the sequence is a little different.
- Turn key to Position I
- Hold in trip button
- Turn key to position II within 2 seconds
- Trip mileage will go to zero, keep pressed in until original mileage returns
- Turn off & restart, message should be off

'06 XC90 solution:
1. turn ignition to I
2. depress and hold trip button
3. turn ignition to II(while still holding trip button)
4. in about 5-7 seconds warning light(yellow triangle) begins to flash
5. release trip button WHEN yellow triangle is flashing(it flashes 5 times, if you wait for it to stop flashing, it will NOT reset), turn ignition off
That did it for me.
Thanks JMorse!
