Default Should I buy a V70?

Hey guys, this is my first post apart from my introduction. I'm thinking of buying a used Volvo station wagon for under $4,500 with 125,000 miles or less. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the V70, 1st generation (1998-2000). But I have seen some 2001 V70 with 125k+ miles on them in that price range. Should I stick with the older, but less worn out car, or is the upgraded model worth the extra mileage?

Also I love in NYC, so snow and rain, are an issue. I am about to turn in my FWD Acura TSX 2006 lease which was just %&@$ terrible in the snow. I'm very attracted to AWD cars now because of it. So should I buy an XC variant or is it not worth the extra cost and lowered MPG.

And of course, the question about maintenance. What horrible problems (if any) should I expect to encounter with a Volvo this old and with that many miles?

Apart from the bad stuff, what about regular maintenance? Gas, oil, brakes, windshield wipes etc? What would my expected average yearly cost on those be?

Thanks.

Default Issues with 98-00 models

with these models you will likely find random electrical issues. I am an owner of a 98 s70glt and previously a 1995 850 glt wagon. these both had electrical problems, usually small and annoying, never causing the car to not run correctly. i have heard that they get better after around 00-01 models, but not sure. i feel like my s70 is great in the snow and rain, take it snowboarding almost every weekend in winter. will not tell you how to spend your money but deffinately be aware of small details in a used car, they will tell you a lot about how it was cared for, or its lasting condition. good luck
