Hi all. This is my first thread and have read through all post. 1999 C70. on start I get a loud 2-4 second screech from the starter area. Also if you tap the key you get a sound that is like 2 pieces of tin rolling. The car had sat for abot 4-5 months and I bought it as a project car. I sarted the car 2 times when I initially got it and no noise. After driving it home (120 miles) and starting it again the noise started. Most people who have listened to agree its from the starter area and diagnosis had been anywhere from starter to fly wheel to torque converter. Any other thoughts before I first replace starter?

 

Starter is engaging but spring in starter cylenoid is not functioning, replace! It will only get worst! Had same problem recently.

1998 C70 2.3 HPT Coupe, 37k miles

 

remove the starter motor then inspect the starter gear & the flywheel condition. turn the crankshaft by hand to rotate the flywheel. i seem flywheel cracked before.
