I have a '92 960 and it has been running rich with black residue from exhaust and smoke every time I accelerate. The car is "searching" for an idle and stalls at times. I just had the timing belt replaced and supposedly a top end rebuild as well from a volvo "expert" and ever since this is how the car is running. I need help troubleshooting! Did this guy screw me?

 

How does the stinky oil come in?
Does it smell like gas?

 

THE OIL IS LOOKING PARTICULARLY BLACK ON THE DIP STICK. IT STINKS ON THE DIP STICK AS WELL (POSSIBLY GASOLINISH...HARD TO PINPOINT THE ODOR).

The oil has a sour smell to it....maybe a slight gas smell.....its hard to pinpoint the odor on the dipstick. What do you think it is caused by?

 

How old is the oil?

What else has been done to the car lately?
