Default T6 Transmission Problems

Hello,

Looking at an 04 XC90 with 120K miles (Also posted in XC90 forum but I'm looking for more general T6 answers)

Seller says "transmission has been flawless and fluid has been flushed a number of times by dealer as scheduled." Also says "dealer stated that the car is way past the point of having the transmission issue/failure and it should not be a problem moving forward"

Is this statement valid? Would it be worth it for me to buy the car and have the tranny rebuilt anyway? How much would that cost?

I don't want to buy the car only to have the tranny fail next year. However, the asking price is making it hard for me to let the car go.

Thanks

What's the VIN?

There is no point that I would say you are safe. But I wouldn't just rebuild it for no reason.

Thanks. Just wanted to verify the trans hadn't been replaced and so far, it hasn't unless it was paid for by the customer or done at an indy shop.

There is a recall for a TCM upgrade that I would recommend having done if you buy the car. There is no cost for it.

Thanks ENS. Seller confirmed tranny has not been replaced or serviced other than fluid. Would you recommend buying the car? List price is 4500. Looks to be in good shape. Seller says new oil, tires, brakes, rotors, timing belt, exhaust, thermo, and fuel pump in 2013.

Would I be rolling the dice as far as the transmission goes?

You would certainly be rolling the dice. I don't know what they go for but that price sounds fair. I'd recommend having it inspected by someone familiar with Volvo before buying it, be it a specialized indy shop or dealer.
