Default Used 2005 Volvo S60 2.5T FWD

I am a newbie here, and a little confused based on what I read in the manual, and what people are telling me.

Just bought a used 2005 Volvo S60 2.5T FWD with 46,000 miles from a Volvo dealer, and am confused by what type of oil and grade of gas to put in the car.

The manual states 5w30 oil, and 91 Octane. Friends of mine tell me to use Synthetic Oil and Premium Gas for best performance.

The dealer tells me that regular oil, and regular gas are perfectly fine for that Turbo engine as it was designed to be run on that particular oil and gas.

Being that the engine has the Turbo what would be your recommendations?

What do you use?

The dealer put in fresh 5w30 when the car was being prepped.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Synthetic oil is not required, nor is premium fuel.

It will be fine with regular oil and 87 octane.

+1 on 87 octane being fine.

On the oil, as with all maintenance, it really comes down to your ultimate goal on the life of the car. If you are going to drive it for 5 years/75K miles just use regular oil, but if you are looking for it to last to 200K miles + then I would take the synthetic approach, but that's just me. The same holds true for the maintenance of other components such as the transmission, brakes, etc.
